Authentic + Intuitive Marketing

One of the most common questions I’m asked is “What public relations firm did you hire to make your book a success?”

The answer may surprise you.

When it came to building a platform for “A Widow’s Guide to Healing” , countless hours of strategy and secret growing went into creating a blueprint for success. I did not have a fancy PR firm, nor do I have a degree in design or advertising. The world of marketing was foreign to me, so the learning curve was steep. However, I did it all on my own through intuitive & authentic marketing. I built relationships with luminaries, like Dr. Deepak Chopra, who is now my friend and mentor. My cover blurbs from him and  Maria Shriver came as a result of writing for Huffington Post and The Shriver Report. I reached out directly to Katie Couric as well, which resulted in two interviews.

When it came to the Live Happy book ( I wrote a chapter about gratitude), Organic Spa magazine, American Greetings, Refinery 29 and others, I knew no one at each of these platforms. So, I did a “cold email” (think cold call). And believe it or not, it was a “cold email” that led to my writing the script for a live 1 hour Twitter Chat at ABC World News Headquarters (New York City). For this tweet chat about the physical effects of grief I obtained participating organizations like Mayo Clinic, American Heart Association, American Greetings among others.

Saying “YES” to Giving & “YES” to YOU

Shortly after my husband died I was in a local grocery at the check out counter and barely holding it together. I avoided all eye contact with the clerk. Then I heard her ask if I wanted to donate a $1 to a local food bank. For whatever reason it grabbed my attention.
I said “YES”.

At that moment something inside me lit up.

Greetings from New York City & Change Resilience

Dear Readers,

Time quickly elapsed since I’ve posted here, so I thought I would update you on some of the events I’ve had the privilege in being a part of these past few months.

Last week, I had the joy of volunteering in Harlem, New York alongside the partners and donors of the Whole Planet/ Whole Foods Foundation. We visited microcredit clients in Harlem with the Whole Planet partner, Grameen America. In addition, we worked with the amazing Green City Force at the Wagner Farms. The young people you see here (in the photo above) are AmeriCorps internes and are learning skills they will be able to integrate into their future while bringing healthy food into the community. The business partners (in photo above) are from Seventh Generation, Papyrus, Whole Foods, Unilever, Chobani, Wallaby, Naked Juice & IZZE.

31- Creative Ways To Practice Gratitude

Kristin Meekhof & Deepak Chopra

Kristin Meekhof & Deepak Chopra

I am deeply honored to be able to share with you that I co- collaborated with Dr. Deepak Chopra’s wellness website- Jiyo- on this free 31- day gratitude series. Several weeks ago, I sent an email to the Jiyo team stating that I would love to try to create the world’s largest online gratitude journal.

Starting on September 25, 2017, Jiyo will provide a prompt to you of something to be grateful for and we will be celebrating teachers, military, family, friends, authors and even pets. There some very special people who will be sharing their thoughts about gratitude in this series. It was such a joy to write 31 days of content, and I look forward to seeing your own gratitude videos and snaps. With the exception of two videos, I personally curated the videos, so I can tell you without a doubt, you won’t want to miss any of them.

Harvard

Dear Ones,

I’m so glad it is Spring! I’m spending more time outdoors because I’m training for another half- marathon.

On March 30, my heart skipped more than a few beats when I spoke at the 2017 Harvard Medical School’s writing & publishing conference. I shared a bit about my journey, and talked about resilience. I am indebted to Dr. Julie Silver for her generous invitation. I’m also grateful for the ongoing support from the doctors (who attended the conference), and a handful of us are meeting later this month.
